During his stay in Kyiv Zmijewski will also take part in a presentation of a <strong>new issue of <em>Political Critique<\/em> magazine<\/strong> (Ukrainian edition), published by Visual Culture Research Center. An exhibition will last until October 23.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/vcrc.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/zmievskyj_eng.pdf\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-409\" title=\"zmievskyj_eng\" src=\"http:\/\/vcrc.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/zmievskyj_eng-283x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"283\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vcrc.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/zmievskyj_eng-283x400.jpg 283w, https:\/\/vcrc.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/zmievskyj_eng-723x1024.jpg 723w, https:\/\/vcrc.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/zmievskyj_eng-212x300.jpg 212w, https:\/\/vcrc.org.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/zmievskyj_eng.jpg 842w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 283px) 100vw, 283px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Artur Zmijewski<\/strong> is an artist and curator, one of the leading representatives of current critical art. He participated in 51. Venice Biennale, Manifesta 5 and Documenta 12. In 2012, he curated the 7. Berlin Biennale (together with Joanna Warsza and <em>Voina<\/em> group). Zmijewski is an artistic editor of <em>Political Critique<\/em> magazine. In his work Zmijewski studies the current social antagonisms, problems of political representation and collective imaginaries.<strong><em><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Democracies<\/em><\/strong> is an ongoing film series that documents various political actions around the globe. Zmijewski\u2019s camera becomes both witness and participant of protest actions, mourning demonstrations, civil unrests, sports celebrations, historical reconstructions etc. Zmijewski comments on his project: \u2018I appreciate the politicization of public space. A demonstration that may last for just on hour is a moment, when people occupy the position of political subject, subvert the rules of parliamentary politics. They say: only direct politics exist. This is an incredible moment that should never end\u2019 (In conversation with Oleksiy Radynski, <em>Art Ukraine<\/em> magazine, #3\/2011).<\/p>\n<p>During his stay in Kyiv Artur Zmijewski will also present his <strong>film <em>Catastrophe<\/em><\/strong> that documents the reaction of Polish society towards the crash of Lech Kaczynski\u2019s presidential plane in Russia on April 10, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Visual Culture Research Center (26 Kostiantynivska st, <em>Zhovten<\/em> Cinema)<em><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This exhibition takes part within <\/em>Culture of Transformation<em> project, co-organized by Visual Culture Research Center and supported by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland.
