Visual Culture Research Centre<\/strong> and \u201cPolitical Critique\u201d<\/strong> invite you to the lecture by architecture researcher Evgenia Gubkina, which will take place on Saturday, February 7th, at 18:00.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In her lecture, Evgenia Gubkina will talk about the underground as an embodiment of myths about progress and prosperity that exist in the world and Soviet architecture. Why interiors of the stations were developed by the best architects and no expense was spared for the decoration? How the opening of new areas was used as propaganda instrument? By the example of subways in Kharkiv and Dnipropetrivsk Evgenia will show if the attitude to the subway in the 60 \u2013 80s had changed, and how the \u201cunderground palace\u201d of the late modernism looked like. What are the main conceptions and characteristics of the underground in the period of \u201cstagnation\u201d? Had the underground become utilitarian and not utopian project?<\/p>\n

Evgenia Gubkina<\/strong> \u2013 is a scholar and curator, developer and guide of the route \u201cLinear \u0421ity\u201d for the conference by international organization DOCOMOMO. Since 2012, consultant of the project \u201cUkrainian Weeks of the Constructivism\u201d at Lenin<\/em> gallery of contemporary art in Zaporizhia. In 2013 she was the co-founder of the project \u201cUkraine \u2013 Germany. 1920 \u2013 1930. Commons\u201d in Zaporizhia (Lenin<\/em>) and the organizer of the exhibition in Kharkiv (N\u00fcrnberger House<\/em>). In 2014 co-founded the public organization Urban Forms Center<\/em> that realized such projects as \u201cAtomograds: the planned cities in the contemporary society\u201d (Zaporizhia), \u201cKharkiv: inventory\u201d (Kharkiv) etc. Lives and works in Kharkiv.<\/p>\n

The lecture will take place within the frameworks of the exhibition \u201cSuperstructure\u201d going on at the VCRC until February 28th. <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
